Raiders rookie strong safety Karl Joseph knew he was going to see the field early after being drafted 14th overall by Oakland during the 2016 NFL Draft.
“That was my goal,” Joseph said of making the first team on the Raiders unofficial depth chart. “They didn’t draft me in the first round to come in and sit down, but they definitely expect big things from me.”
What he didn’t anticipate was being on the field nearly every snap during fall camp aside from the one day he sat out last week for precautionary reasons. Joseph tore his ACL last October and only played in four games during his senior season at West Virginia.
The projected starter at strong safety has made early impressions in Napa, soaking in knowledge from the veteran secondary group the Raiders acquired in the offseason while preparing himself to be an integral member of the defensive backfield this year.
Bay Area News Group’s Courtney Cronin goes one-on-one with the Raiders rookie, getting to know more about what fuels the hard-hitting run stopper.
