The Raiders (9-2) are hoping to extend Buffalo’s losing ways in the Coliseum as the Bills (6-5) haven’t won a game here in 50 years.
“Fifth years ago?” Bills coach Rex Ryan said. “That’s amazing. Woof. You talk about a drought.”
Speaking of droughts, the Bills have the NFL’s longest streak of missing the playoffs — 16 years.
Buffalo’s last win at the Coliseum came on Thanksgiving Day in 1966 in just the fifth Raiders game ever at the then-new facility. The Bills, who had a young backup quarterback in Daryle Lamonica who would go on to become a star for the Raiders, beat Oakland 31-10 that day.
For trivia buffs, the Bills have played the Raiders 15 times in the Bay Area, going 1-8 at the Coliseum, 2-2 at Frank Youell Field (now Laney College), 1-0 at Kezar Stadium and 0-1 at Candlestick Park.
How will history treat the Raiders and Bills today? It may all depend on how well the Raiders can corral the Bills’ strong running attack led by LeSean McCoy and quarterback Tyrod Taylor.
The Raiders can also help matters by getting another strong performance from quarterback Derek Carr and their offense. Meanwhile, Khalil Mack, a former University of Buffalo star, will no doubt be looking forward to making some noise against the Bills.
