The Raiders (10-3) can clinch their first playoff berth in 13 years if they can defeat the Chargers (5-8) at Qualcomm Stadium. Oakland’s playoff drought is second behind only Buffalo’s 16-year streak.
The AFC West rivals met on Oct. 9 in Oakland, when the Raiders prevailed 34-31 on the strength of Derek Carr’s 317 yards passing and two touchdowns. San Diego’s passing game will again present challenges for the Raiders — Philip Rivers threw for 359 yards and four touchdowns in their first meeting.
The banged-up Chargers will be without standout running back Melvin Gordon, who is nursing hip and knee injuries.
The Raiders are tied for first place with Kansas City, but the Chiefs hold the tiebreaker by virtue of winning both games against Oakland. Oakland has a two-game lead in the wild-card race with three games to play in the regular season.
Oakland is coming off a disappointing 21-13 loss to the Chiefs in Kansas City last Thursday night in which Carr had a disappointing 17-for-41 throwing performance. He threw for just 117 yards in the loss.
